Are you an Entrepreneur or do you own a Job?

The question that every entrepreneur should ask themselves is: Do I own a company…or a job?  This is a question you should ask, especially in the beginning of building your business.  Many people mistake incorporating a job for building a business, and there is a fundamental difference between the two.  What I mean is that just because you filed your business entity as a LLC, C Corp or S Corp does not mean that you have started a company.

Be your own boss!

In an article in Entrepreneur Magazine by Tamara Monosoff, she writes 8 tips in getting started in becoming your own boss.  Here are Tamara’s tips in getting started as an entrepreneur:

Take a Stand for Yourself.
If you are dissatisfied with your current circumstances, admit that no one can fix them except for you. It doesn’t do any good to blame the economy, your boss, your spouse or your family. Change can only occur when you make a conscious decision to make it happen.

The Wisdom of the Counsel

Proverbs 11:14 (Amplified Bible) Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.

I have written in past editorials about the importance of a team.  Now I’d like to talk about the importance of an advisory board to the success of your business.  Building a company is a very complex and delicate process because of the many factors that go into creating a world class business. Therefore it is extremely crucial to tap into other experienced entrepreneurs who will share their wisdom and connections.

In an article written for Entrepreneur, Neil Berdiev examines a potential trend which involves start-up businesses seeking “factor” loans (which can be expensive), as opposed to traditional bank financing to gain cash flow to make it day to day. According to Berdive, the practice involves a financing company, or

You’re writing a Business Plan! Not Holy Text

by Malik Corbett

An article I read written by Bob Reiss on Entrepreneur.com called “Write Your Business Plan in Pencil” he points out in the article what I often tell many entrepreneurs, he writes “I have little doubt that you (the small-business owner) will shortly have to change, amend, modify, scrap or abandon your original business plan altogether. One of the attributes of successful entrepreneurs is flexibility. By writing your business plan in pencil it forces you to look at change as the only constant. Make change your friend, embrace it and work it to your benefit.”  The smartest entrepreneurs understand that
