Unless you have been under a rock you probably have heard a lot about this week’s (Aug. 24th) U.S. Home Sales numbers plummeting to its lowest levels in more than a decade. This news was not well received by the capital markets as the Dow Jones Industrial Index was down 133 points in a day because of the news. Many who are novice in their understanding of the capital markets and economics are not able to grasp the significance of the news stating that U.S. Home Sales is 25.5% below the level that it was a year ago. This is big news and shows a crack in the recovery of the U.S. economy. In other words the economic engine of America is breaking down right before our eyes.

As a result of the slow growth of the US economy, tours have taken a huge hit as many artists have canceled shows because of the lack of ticket sales. This month, pop diva Rihanna postponed six dates on her “Last Girl on Earth” tour.

As I briefly wrote in “Can our Economy be Saved?” don’t be fooled by one of the few bright spots of our economy: the Software and services sector. The Software and Services sector has had a 12.63% growth in EPS (earnings per share: The portion of a company’s profit allocated to each outstanding share of common stock). Earnings per share serve as an indicator of a company’s profitability. Although you may hear or read financial analysts talk about the bright spot in this sector, there is a fundamental breakdown in the U.S economy that is not being told to the American people.
