Extra Large Advertising

The Trojan sub-brand Magnum, who’s share in the condom market has grown from 4.6% in 2001 to 18.8% today, attributes their current popularity to hip hop, namely artists such as Ludacris, Lil’ Wayne, and Eminem. Though Magnum specifically has never been advertised (only it’s parent brand has), upcoming issues of Vibe and XXL will premiere the first advertisements for the large condom brand. Part of a joint print, online, and radio effort called The Magnum Live Large Project, the ad will feature Ludacris, who, according to Jim Daniels, VP of Marketing at Trojan, “has been actively involved in using his celebrity and immense talent to really try to advance improvements in sexual health.”

Ludacris: Performer, Businessman, & Parent

In a highly flattering USA Today article on the platinum-selling artist known as Ludacris, the Grammy-winner states, “I know I’m working hard, but it’s hard for me to think about all I’m doing because I’m constantly on the move. How do I do it? I take it one minute at a time. I’ve got a great team of people around me, I designate my time intelligently, and I’m a great multitasker.”

He sure is. The article delves into several of Luda’s current projects, including his new album Battle of the Sexes, his tour with The Black Eyed Peas, a restaurant in Atlanta, his DTP record label, an acting career, and parenthood. Fortunately, a crazy schedule doesn’t faze this down-south rapper. “It’s just the rush that I get from working toward a goal and really loving what I do,” he says. “I love it so much it’s almost a crime, because not everybody is so blessed. I will keep going until I can’t do any more.”

Rappers Turned Actors…Turned Directors

Many hip-hop artists have chosen to expand their brand by jumping into acting. To name a few: LL Cool J, Common, Xzibit, Ludacris, DMX, Ice Cube, and Snoop Dogg. Wu-Tang Clan founder RZA has gotten into the acting game in the past, but his newest project is writing and directing.
